It called for a grand celebration for sure, for my first Firmfare R.D.Burman Talent Award and Stardust win, 2012. And i did so yesterday at Sea Princess, Juhu, Mumbai. I had a super good time with my esteemed guests and friends, who came to shower all their good wishes and blessings last night.

It was indeed an overwhelming moment for me to witness so much of support from B’town and friends.

Well here is the video of me, grabbing the golden trophy from MAX Stardust Awards, for Standout Performance New Music Director. Announced by gorgeous Giah Khan and Shreyas Talpade.

It was the second one in a row, of course I was a little unnerved. But then I felt proud to see Bollywood welcome me in the family in such a beautiful way, after all the hard work.

Hope i get to really continue creating good music always.

Winning Stardust Award 2012 For Music Direction in Tanu Weds Manu

Seriously, never did i imagine while creating songs for Tanu Weds Manu in the confinements of my room, that it will go on to win me a Filmfare and a Stardust award in a row. It is indeed inspirational. Although, i feel rewarded each time a music lover connects to me saying how much he/she loves my music, but it still feels great to be welcomed by the film fraternity in this manner. I also fathom, that if one is dedicated and honest towards one passion, in any form of persuasion, the rewards do follow.

Hope I get to win hearts again with my new work to release from April onwards starting with “Jolly L.L.B.” produced by Fox Star Studios and directed by Subhash Kapoor.

Although every film isn’t like “Tanu weds Manu” and demands different kinds of music, I will still try to give out my best each time. And yes, as a creator, i cant really deviate much from the milieu of a film wherby i really need to justify the purpose, flavor, style and genre of a song in a situation just as the script demands. But it has been a great experience in the past 6-7 months, producing new melodies for so many various situations, romantic, sufi numbers, satirical qawwali, retro tribute, fusion trance, punjabi tracks and hey hold your breath! they will all be served to you soon.

So for now, do say hello to my black lady and a golden angel below if you wish! Thanks to you all for making this happen.

My Moment of Pride, Receiving Filmfare R. D. Burman Award 2012

It still hasn’t sunk into me as yet. Filmfare Award is a dream reward for any artist, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better with my debut film, Tanu Weds Manu. Not that i ever worked for awards but now that the Black Lady is posing gracefully on my shelf, she is a surefire inspiration for life. How did it happen? Did you plan for it? Some ask me for sure!!! Well nope, one can not plan for something like this, but should only be dedicated to one’s passion, the rewards shall follow. Atleast that’s what i have known.

Its often beautiful to look back and cherish how exactly a year back our film finally played on the silver screen on 24th Feb after all our hard work. That was an unfathomable moment in itself, the whole team watching the film and music play out on the single screen, at a jam-packed Chandan Theatre in Juhu… Short of tickets, we stood the whole time in the passage and watched viewers going berserk on Pappi’s antiques and roaring on the music. What an experience! First day, first show hysteria for the first time for me as a part of it. And it is another high today.

All i remember that i just decided to follow my heart ever since i was 13 or 14, when i just had a vague aspiration to be a musician never knowing “How”. And thereafter the journey is mostly blurry at times and often vivid. Going past so many non musical career changes, and finally steering clear towards music was an uphill task. I say its always about determination and conviction and hard labor all the way. So much to learn and create yet so little time. And do you have a choice, when the only thing drives you is your passion?

And here came my moment of pride. Receiving the Filmfare R.D. Burman Award, 2012 from the music baron, Bhushan Kumar (T series owner) himself and Honorable Alka ji. And thats not all! all this, right in the presense of Sir A.R Rehman, the first recipient of this Award. An award that has pancham da’s name associated with it, should always serve me as a reminder, what level of excellence legendary musicians have enriched our lives with. I must follow suit.

To be honest i was still glued to my seat for more than 5 seconds when heard Alkaji finish the line, “And the R.D. Burman Award for the best upcoming talent goes to……… with “Krsna”.. my mind doubted if i had heard it right. But there it was for real. And you can catch my vulnerable moment on 19th Feb, 2012 on Sony TV at 8 pm. Hehe. I express my heartfelt gratitude to my Mentor, Godfather and Friend, Jawahar Chavda, Guru Ustad Mehboob Khan, Aanand Rai, Shailesh, Himanshu, Raj, Pritesh and the list is endless. Music is a beautiful world to live in. And thanks for being a part of my world. Wish you all good luck in every passion you follow.

Tanu Weds Manu Gets Filmfare Nomination For Best Background Music

After Screen, Gima, Star Entertainment, Stardust for Music Nomination, my Background Music, that i had composed for Tanu Weds Manu just got nominated in 57th Filmfare Awards, 2012.

Its really touching to see, all the hard-work in background music getting some accolades too. Specially unlike Hollywood, Indian BGM scores are not always so highly noticed. But let me tell you, composing songs is so very different than scoring background music, its a different ball game altogether, requiring different skill sets. And when Aanand Rai, handed me to score for TWM background, he was albeit a little nervous, because a BGM can uplift a scene as well as ruin one too. And today he is the happiest man to see his film getting nominated for best Background Score in the most prestigious award ceremony, Filmfare. And thanks a ton to my music associate Pritesh Mehta for handling all the arrangements so beautifully.

Just two days back, when all of us in TWM team met up, we could only look back and relish the fun we had during the scoring, under such tremendous pressure of deadlines, theatrical release and stuff. We had so little time left to do the score that we could onkly wish, why there wasn’t one more day in the calender or another hour per se. But that’s what makes it all worth it. And boy, i wanted to use so much live instruments, solo vocals, chorus, aalaps, percussions to be in the milieu of the film. And these take a lot of time as against electronic sounds. And just to mention, my favorite part is the BGM song i created, when Kangana rushes to the station to stop Madhavan from leaving her, just before interval. I wish it was there in the audio album release. Will try to bring it here specially for you.

Looking Forward To A Very Musical 2012

Hi, sorry for being on a hiatus a little too long without any update here. And what did I do? Made music of course. 2011 will definitely go down as my most eventful year in my life, with my debut in Bollywood with Tanu Weds Manu.

Now in the final stages of second round of productions, I can tentatively tell you that my new songs will start rolling out from March 2012 onwards, if not earlier. And they would be of varied genres. One phase was to break into Bollywood, now I feel its about showcasing different styles of music and melodies. And yes, if everything falls into place, you shall hear me singing a couple of songs too in the first half of the year. Many a times, friends, well wishers ask me why don’t I grab a song or two from the films for my own voice itself. But I feel can’t be greedy enough for it. I believe a song should deserve the right voice. So I quietly answer everyone, whenever I feel, that my song needs my voice, i shall render it.

The Last four months have been a wonderful journey, creating melodies and producing them. I met a lot of great new vocal talents and captured the voices of some of the stalwarts of playback singing this time around too. Incidentally, I have recorded songs with Mohit Chauhan yet again apart from Kailash Kher, Shreya Ghoshal, Mamta Sharma, Papon and likewise. So guys, Lots of music coming your way soon.Wish me all the luck. Happy New year to you all. I am looking forward to a very musical 2012. And, icing on the cake, Tanu Weds Manu Sequel to come by too along with other releases.

Airtel TVC, Rangeela Brothers Feat. Shreyas Talpade, Music – Krsna

I just finished directing music for this Airtel TVC titled “Rangeela Brothers”. (See Video Below)

It is shot by Kaushik Sarkar, a fellow friend who has also graduated from my college, National Institute Of Design. And the agency was JWT. The brief was simple, to revive the old feel of Airtel Theme, which is what I tried here, with the usage of strings, flutes and other ethnic instruments. The Voice Over is of Tinnu Anand.

Although background scores for advertising commercials are no match as against film songs, in terms of creativity and scale. But since I started my career as an advertising film maker and a music composer, it felt great getting back to the grind while doing this.

And yes I’m working on new films which are in progress. So guys, have patience, you will be the first to hear about them when on the verge of release.

“Krsna” is actually my adopted screen name. Ofcourse you will find me on the cover of my debut Hindi feature film, Tanu Weds Manu, credited as the music director and playback singer for Rangrez, but I am aware that it spells differently.
Usually in India it is popularly spelt as “Krishna”. But somehow the way ISKCON followers spell the name inspired me so much, that I wanted to keep it so. I personally find it very graphic and endearing although there is no religious faith associated with it at all. For I only believe in the religion of music and nothing beyond.
